Blind Man's Fancy

March 7, 2012

If you love scrappy quilts, Blind Man's Fancy is the quilt for you!!  I had the pleasure to quilt a Blind Man's Fancy quilt from Lori of Humble Quilts.  Lori is an amazing and inspirational quilter.  She has a real knack for recreating quilts to look just like an antique.  Her fabric selection is always spot on for reproducing a gorgeous masterpiece!

This is a before photo taken from Lori's blog.  As you can see this quilt has a lot going on.  Lots of gorgeous fabrics...and look at all those flying geese and HSTs!!  Lori's scrappy mix of fabrics made this quilt look just like an antique.  I loved every moment I had with this quilt!!  Due to the nature of the quilt, a simple allover design for the quilting was the way to go.  Every time I tried to take pictures it was horribly cloudy here, so please excuse the photos.
I quilted my freehand allover paisley design.

It blended in perfectly with the quilt.  The quilting served as a nice backdrop to the piecing and fabrics.
The batting is Hobbs 80/20.  I actually pieced the batting from two pieces.  I thought my roll of Hobbs had more left on it than what was actually there.  I ran some options for batting by Lori and she gave me the go ahead to piece the batting.  What an angel!  You would never know the batting is pieced and it is keeping with the scrappy theme. :-)  I used a tan So Fine thread from Superior, top and bobbin that blended well with the top and backing of the quilt.

Although the quilting doesn't show up well, it was perfect for the quilt!!  Another beautiful quilt I enjoyed while I had it! :-)  I believe Primitive Gatherings is doing this quilt as a BOM.  That would probably be the only way I would be able to make it!!  (sigh) If only I had the time. :-)

Make sure you stop by Lori's blog to see her quilt at home and her other beautiful top she just finished!

  5. I just read Lori's post a few minutes ago and will tell you the same thing I said to her- the quilt is spectacular and you did a wonderful job quilting it!
A job well done by both. Wonderful piecing made more wonderful by perfect quit pattern. The overall design was just the right touch, I think.
