Harvey

November 1, 2014

October just flew by this year! It was jam packed with stuff!!  I was busy celebrating my 40th birthday around the 11th.  While busy quilting like a crazed mad woman for Market. Then on to a week of recovery!  Catching up on my sleep and some leisurely sewing until celebrating my 15 year wedding anniversary!  I opted to not attend Houston this is year for Market and Festival.  I could not bear missing my 15 year anniversary.  I missed the last 2 and Halloween.  Being with my family is always the best decision!!  It WAS a busy, fun filled month!

It was 4 years ago I started this blog with participating in one of the Schnibble sew-a-longs that Sherri and Sinta host.  So naturally I had to participate again! This month the pattern is Harvey.  A large Schnibble designed by Carrie Nelson for Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. available here.

I love basket quilts and this is a huge basket.
My version is in blues.  I used every leftover blue charm square (most repros) from making Schnibbles quilts the last 4 years in this quilt.  Schnibbles use 5" charm squares as their main component.  I had to add some fabric from my scrap bin as well.  I am not a big blue person, but I love blue.  I have found it makes a beautiful addition to my home.  I used some blue toile from the line Rural Jardin by French General for the background.  I had been saving (hoarding)  it for the perfect quilt.
I think the background fabric gives the quilt a real vintage look.  I love it!!!  I only have 2 borders on the quilt because I am undecided on if I am going to hang it on a wall in the downstairs.
It was extremely windy during the outdoor photo shoot.  It is a good thing I have a wonderful helper. :-)
I modeled the quilt top around the house a little.  That is when I realized I may not want to hang it.  I love the added touch of blue around the house.
If you have followed me for a while, then you know that I decorate for all the seasons and holidays.  Makes the house festive and changes things up. :-)  So fall is in full swing here.
Although the quilt is blue in my sea of earth tones here, I love how it adds that pop of color.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  It will be fun to see the parade of Harvey quilts at Sherri and Sinta's.

You are right--time with family is the best. : )
You have made a great quilt here. That background fabric does seem to give it definition. Am looking forward to seeing how this one is quilted.

  11. Your Harvey quilt looks beautiful hanging in your dining room area. Good choice with the colors too. I love how the middle is lighter and graduates to a darker edge of the basket. Happy belated celebrations.
