LB as I like to call her, aka Lisa Bongean, finally let the cat out of the bag on her blogKind of.  It’s just a small glimpse of what I’ve been cookin’ up (quilting) for her. Her new design called “Christmas Reel.”  This will hopefully explain some of  my blogger absenteeism (sounds like a medical condition).  It’s been hard keeping secrets from all of you! 🙂   I don’t even know where to start…she just called me and gave me the heads up that she posted some quilt pics on her blog and that I could blog away now.  I was like “thanks for the 2 second head start, LB!!!”  LOL!!  I can’t begin to tell how exciting and dream fulfilling it is quilting for Lisa.  I have long been a big fan of hers.  No secret there.  So to quilt for her, not sure I can articulate my feelings into so many words but…two words come to mind…

SOOOOOO COOL.

I’ll start with the green and red applique quilt.  My baby.
My heart.

I put my heart and soul into the quilting, not to mention time.  It literally was on my machine for a whole month!!!  I will have to do two posts on this quilt cuz there’s A LOT-O-photos!!! 🙂

Lisa is a genius designer and this quilt is no exception!  This fabric is from Lisa’s new line called Seasonal Little Gatherings for Moda.  Gorgeous fabric!!!  The blocks were appliqued by several talented ladies for Lisa.  Lisa designed the quilt to look like an antique quilt. I did a lot of research on antique Whig Rose and Rose of Sharon styled quilts to come up with the quilting.  I wanted to have some old fashioned elements with a little modern twist.  Primitive and a classic all wrapped up in one.

I noticed on many of the antique quilts there would be a quilted motif, like a flower pot for example.  I quilted a “basket” motif of feathers spilling out of it in the corners of the quilt.

The borders are 12″.  I had a lot of fun filling them or “showing off” as Lisa likes to call it. 🙂

I really wanted the applique to look like trapunto, so I micro stippled around them to really make them pop!!  Then I quilted a feather and a curved cross hatched motif in between the applique.

Then to find out this quilt is going to be in the Nov/Dec issue of Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting….it’s like a quilting fairy tale. 🙂 Video link here.

I’ll be back with another post about the specifics on this quilt.  Lisa and I talked about the quilting, but in the end, she trusted me to do “my magic.”  🙂
