Well after basically wringing my hands most of the day about the piano keys border, I finally decided to just go for it and  I got two sides on last night!  I might have been able to get the other two on, but our girls had parent/teacher conferences last night.  I am pleasantly surprised at how straight the borders turned out.  A little birdie named Candace gave me some very good hints and advice on how to keep them from getting wonky.  I hope to get the other two sides on today between baking, cooking and preparing for tomorrow.  Plus, I want to get this top done and off the floor before Scooter comes home.  Otherwise, I’ll be looking at quilt salad tomorrow morning!

The piano key border really makes this quilt stand out.  I love it.  I don’t know what I was so nervous about!

The strangest thing happened to me Monday after I worked at the quilt shop.  Lynn from Sew ‘n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog said this would happen.  She told me the problem with working at a quilt shop was that fabric and was always following her home and sure enough it happened to me on Monday!  It’s quite the phenomenon!  Look what followed me home…

It’s a project to make the cutest make-up/travel bags EVER!  Nicole from Sister’s Choice Quilts has been making them and inspired me to get the project to do with my daughters.  These bags make the nicest gifts.  Nicole posted a great tutorial on how to attach the zippers.  Thank goodness too because I’ve never sewn zipper in before!

Now on to some Turkey Day Giveaway prizes!  Yes, I said prizes… plural.  I was feeling so happy and thankful last night after parent/teacher conferences that I decided I needed to give two giveaways!  I went to a random number generator last night to select the winners.

The first prize of Paganini and 2 charm packs of Wild Rose went to…

Lucky number 10… Lori of Humble Quilts!  Lori’s comment… “Really, I have os many htings to be thankful for. Right now though I’m thnakful for my hubby’s love and support in all I do.”  The funny thing is Lori sent me an email talking about how she really does know how to spell and she’s posted about it on her blog.  LOL!  Congratulations Lori!

The second prize I am giving is a pattern that I just love.  It is on my dream to-do list of quilts.

It’s a design by Edyta Sitar.  I saw this quilt in person at Lolly’s quilt shop of Shipshewanna IN and it’s stunning!  Took my breath away.  I know someone will love it just as I do.  By the way, Lolly’s is an amazing quilt shop!!  If you are ever in the area, it’s a must stop and check it out kind of place!  The winner is…

Lucky number 44…Deb (no blog)!  Deb’s comment… “I’m thankful for the opportunity to spend time with family and friends over the holiday weekend, and the fact that we have our first granddaughter to spend time with this year. It’s amazing!”  Congratulations Deb!  Lori and Deb please email me your addresses so I can send you your Turkey Day Giveaway prize!

I want to wish everyone a very safe and
Happy Thanksgiving!

It is surprising how long it takes to sew a piano key border but I think they make a nice finish to a quilt.

  • Lori says:

Oh my gosh! I'm so thrilled. And of course, it was the one comment I didn't even check for spelling errors! Thanks for adding the note! LOLROF!!
Your piano key border looks perfect! Are you going to pass on the hints so we can all know?
Love the little bags too. I've been watching Nicole's blog and they sure are pretty!!

  • Terry says:

Your borders look great! Well done! I just bought that little bag pattern too but I haven't made it yet. Maybe after Chritmas. :0)

Congrats to the winners – woohoo!!!!

Your piano keys look fabulous. I love piano key borders.

I love the bags Nicole has posted on her blog and have been VERY tempted to order the pattern and some zippers. Sigh – I'm bagophobic and zipperphobic. LOL

  • Nicole says:

Oh yes, piano key borders are the best! A piano key border just ties together every fabric in the quilt top. You will love making the little cosmetics bags! I had never worked with fusible fleece before, and I really liked it.

The border really makes the quilt complete. I was intimidated by them as well and boy does it take a long time to make them. Your quilt turned out fantastic. I agree fabric just jumps in my bag.

  • Deb says:

Wahoo – I'm a very lucky winner of the pattern, which is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for deciding on a second winner. It must be my lucky day since tomorrow is my birthday too! Maybe I better go buy a powerball ticket. Thanks for the opportunity to win, I'll have to make that pattern and send you a picture. Happy Thanksgiving!

Your piano key border looks absolutely AWESOME! I knew you'd do great! I'm loving those bags…I've always been scared to death of bags and zippers, but I think I'm going to give one a whirl…they're so darn cute.

    Congratulations to the winners!
The piano key border is beautiful! When I made my small version of Plan C, I added a plain border because I didn't have another charm pack, but the piano keys look much better.
Let us know the tips, so if I can make the pattern again, I'll know what to do.♥

  • Millie says:

    Linda,
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and congrats to the winners.

I love piano key borders while so many don't. Remember to stay stitch those outside edges about 1/8th inch in. Helpful hint here. 🙂
COngrats to your winners though I'm bummed to miss out on Wild Rose. 🙂 When I worked in the quilt shop….it always came home with me. Not a money maker for sure!!

    Congratulations to Lori and Deb!
Love the piano keys. I do borders like that, but with scraps and all uneven;)

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  • Denise in PA says:

Hi Linda – the piano key border looks great! You were right to plow on through! I almost did the same thing with a recent quilt, was going to take the easy way out and do a regular border, but I was SO glad I didn't. o:) I agree, that zipper tutorial of Nicole's makes me want to do zippers! I've bookmarked. Happy Thanksgiving (hope you get some sewing in!)
