I’m changing gears for tonight from my regularly scheduled program of “Hop To It” to work on a different project.  Remember, I’m on The Christmas Gift Express so that means working on more Christmas presents.  Don’t worry, it’s a wool project too.  It’s another kit from my wool goodies bundle from… you guessed it, Primitive Gatherings.  Am I becoming too predictable??  LOL!  I worked on it last night and got a lot done.  The top is all fused and I just have to stitch it up.

It’s called “Backyard Friends” by Karen Lamp made up with Primitive Gatherings wool.  It’s going to be so pretty when it’s done.  After I stitch the center design, it will be stitched onto a piece of black marbled wool with a scallop border.  Love it!  It is a nice sized penny rug.  It finishes at 13″ x 19″.  The nice thing about this project is the center wool is a light enough shade that I can lay the pattern on my “light box,” place the wool over it and then place my pieces on top of that.  The pattern shows through the wool to make layout placement super easy.  I’ll show my makeshift inexpensive light box that I love!

It’s a basket with a couple lights inside (normally I use one, but the wool required a little more light) and my 16.5″ square ruler on top.  Works like a charm.  I use it ALL the time for “Hop To It.”

Here my project is on top of my light box.  I can really get perfect placement according to the pattern instead of just eyeballing it.  After the pieces are where I want them, I just pick the ruler up with my project on top, walk over to the ironing board, slide my project off the ruler and steam press it.  Everything stays exactly in place!  Now it’s ready to be stitched.

This is a another gift for someone who will remain unnamed until after Christmas!

Another great wool project. The blue wool is so pretty. I like the weight of the wool that comes from Primitive Gatherings. Easy to work with.

Great idea for a makeshift light box. That is a gorgeous wool project. See you Saturday. I worked out my schedule! Let's hope the winter storm predicted holds off long enough for me to get there!

Gorgeous project. The birdies look lovely. Love the light box. Used to do something similar until i bought a light box. Trouble is the "glass" is white perspex & very hard to see the light through. πŸ™ Been meaning to replace it with glass but never seem to get around to it. lol.

Love the bluebirds! I have a similar lightbox…it's a picture frame (just the glass and frame) over a plastic tub with a light in it. Works great and it was free! :0)
