Lots of exciting things going on this coming weekend.  I know two little girls that will be having a monumental birthday this weekend.  More about that tomorrow.  Saturday at the shop is our first Friendship Sit ‘n Sew group with myself and Pat, a quilter and fellow co-worker.  Quilters can come and exchange strips, sit and sew or work on some of the projects From Edyta Sitar‘s new book Friendship Strips and Scraps.  I think it should be a super fun day!   I will be working on the quilt that graces the cover of Edyta’s new book.  I was a little worried about gathering fabric for it because I have such a measly fabric stash.  I think I will share that with you soon.  I just love the way Edyta mixes her fabric up.  I happened to mention it to Edyta and she offered to bring a kit for that quilt up to the shop.  I was like “YES” that would be more than wonderful!!  I think some of the other ladies jumped on board and bought kits too.

This is the kit for the quilt in the photo called “Farmhouse Quilt.”
Look at all those gorgeous fabrics!  AND they are all labeled!  The kit included the backing fabric as well.  Best money I ever spent!!  Hopefully, I’ll remember to take lots of photos from Saturday.
I’m pleased to report that my A-1 is purring like a kitten again!  Jamie came to save the day yesterday.  He fixed what turned out to be a very simple fix.  One look at my machine, Jamie realized the problem and started laughing.  When Scott replaced the cord for the stitch regulator, we plugged it back in backwards!!   LOL!

See the little white plug that now has an “x” marked on it, that was inserted backwards.  We had no idea which way was the front of the plug or that it would matter.  I had Jamie mark the x just in case, so I know for future reference.  I just felt sooooo bad that Jamie drove back to my house.  I’m so glad it was nothing.  Jamie was even more relieved.  He thought it was something very serious.  He said the drive was well worth it.  He is so sweet.  While Jamie was here we went over a few more maintenance items.  He also helped me pick out some threads out off a thread chart, that way I have an idea of what to order.  The tread chart has hundreds of thread colors!  I would order them all if I could, but that’s obviously not practical.  Unfortunately, no time to really practice after Jamie left because I had to take the girls to dance.

I’m hoping I can get back to some practicing today!  I also hope my glasses will be here soon!
Oh, I also wanted to add that Kristin officially wore her white coat Tuesday.  She said she received tons of compliments on her patch!  The other PA students commented on how nice it was sewn on and how good it looked!  They all wanted to know how she did it.  She told them, “my sister is a quilter…she can do anything!”  Or something like that. πŸ™‚  I’m wondering if they attached theirs with superglue??

Hand-sewing appears to be a dying art and those of us who can are become more and more venerated! I've been given Scout uniforms and hands-full of patches to sew on and mail back to the grandsons.

You're sister's quote: "My sister is a quilter… she can do anything!" echoed my older granddaughter's comment over the holidays: "Grandma can sew anything!"

    Have a great day!

  • Karen says:

I was very happy to learn that it was just a backwards plug!!! How lucky for you to have such a wonderful machine!! You must be jumping up and down with joy over it. Now you just need those glasses and some practice time and you will be all set!! :0)
I have been admiring the quilt on the front of Edyta's quilt. I know she specially put the fabric kits together for you and the class members. Is there any chance there is one left?
Happy Birthday to your daughters!! :0)

  • Country Prims says:

You sure have an exciting weekend ahead of you:)

    That sounds like fun-stitching together-what a lovely quilt-enjoy!

Glad your A1 is up and going again too!

    Shazy x

  • WoolenSails says:

That will be a wonderful quilt to work on and with the mix of fabrics, you don't have to worry if you run out of a color;) Glad you found the problem and it wasn't a defect.

  • Abby and Stephanie says:

Good thing is was a silly fix. I just love that house quilt.

  • Lori says:

Sometimes a kit is the way to go. It is beautiful and the quilt will be wonderful.

So glad your A1 had a quick fix.

  • Patti says:

Everytime I read your blog, you make me laugh.

  • Sue says:

I can't thank you enough for stopping in to my blog. That is too funny that we are practically neighbors! How wonderful that know Edyta. I am so glad this book was sent on to me and I too, want to make the quilt on the front cover. I love that she has bluebirds in many of her quilts. I am a huge blue bird fan πŸ™‚

Anyway, I hope you have a great day!

  • Yvette says:

    I adore that kit!!!

Did you know that I don't have any stash at all? I only buy fabrics for projects I am doing. Any leftover fabrics get cut up into strips and donated to my friends bin and we make charity string quilts. I should rename my blog to "Stashless quilter" LOL

  • Joan says:

Great to hear it was such an easy fix. I love those fabrics. All those lovely houses. Look forward to seeing the next lot of quilting tomorrow ? Happy Birthday to the giirls!

  • West Michigan Quilter says:

Glad you A-1 is feeling better. About that Edyta Sitar pattern, we are doing that same one in our Knotty Girls group. I have my fabric strips cut and we making the great exchange next week. Your Sit and Stew group sounds interesting. Wish I lived closer. Happy Birthday to your girls!

  • Nicole says:

How silly that your A-1 problem turned out to be such a non issue! All in all, a good thing! Now you will be back to practicing and having fun.

How exciting about the big birthday celebration coming up! Can't wait to hear all about it!

You are so fortunate to be acquainted with that quilting superstar Edyta. My goodness that kit looks fabulous.

  • Candace says:

I'm so glad your A-1 is "fixed"! I'm sure it isn't the first time Jamie has run into something like that – great that he is so good natured! I am so envious of your house quilt – and the way Edyta put together the kit is so impressive! Happy Birthday to the girls!

  • Wendy says:

You are lucky to get a kit. She really does a mix of fabrics I would never even consider. Have fun with your group.

Edyta has such an amazing style, and I was so impressed to see how beautifully she mixed batiks with other fabrics. How awesome to get a kit from her! Have fun sitting and sewing!

  • Allyson says:

Oh wow, that is a gorgeous quilt. I love the fabrics too! I really like the little 9-patch quilt rolled up in the basket in front of the farmhouse quilt. I'm a sucker for 9-patches. I can't wait to see your progresson this. Have fun at your sit n sew.

  • Sinta Renee says:

I love that quilt and am so excited that you are going to be making it! I have been eyeing the book myself;) Can't wait to see how you come along with it!!!

  • Mama Pea says:

Glad it was such a simple fix! Will you save one of those kits for me??? Please, please, please?? I want one! I want to do that quilt, too. I should finish my Tree of Life quilt. I am going to work on it Friday night. Hmmm…should I bring it on Saturday or star this on Saturday? Maybe I'll bring Tree of Life but pick up the kit on Sat and start it at home. What do you think? I LOVE that Edyta put the kits together for us. My stash, although huge, is too meager also. It doesn't all go together!

  • Jeanette says:

The kit is gorgeous as is the house quilt. Sounds like you are in for a fun day. Glad the problem with the A-1 was so simple. Hugs,

  • Carrie P. says:

Wow, that fabric is stunning. Have fun with that quilt. Glad your machine just had a little something wrong with it.

  • Donna says:

Beautiful quilt and I would have purchased the kit too! I love the book … will have to order it πŸ™‚ I have her book Hop to It and love it.
Glad to know you LA is working and it was just a simple thing!

  • Quilts And Pieces says:

Oh that quilt is going to be wonderful! And I'm so glad Kristin had a great day wearing her coat!

  • Allie says:

Yet another quilt I love – I'm amazed to see her name EVERYWHERE these days, that is so cool! Glad your A-1 is happy, how funny that a little plug can cause so much trouble.
I've had people ask me to mend things, and hubby wants a fishing vest – you know, with all the pockets – I keep telling them I ONLY make quilts!!

  • Simone de Klerk says:

Such a very pretty quilt! And great, the way the fabrics are labeled.
What an exciting day tomorrow, in many different ways (o: Have fun.

  • QuiltSue says:

It's just not fair – stamping foot and sulking. I want to come and sew with you all, it would be such fun.

I am so happy that your A-1 (has it got a name yet by the way?) is fixed and that it was nothing serious. (I was tempted to say "terminal" instead of serious, but thought you might groan at the pun).

  • Cindy says:

Ooh, I 'm glad it wasn't serious, Linda.

I am LOVING the Farmhouse Quilt you are going to be doing. I love anything with houses.

I love hearing about your A-1.

    Have a wonderful Friday.

  • Michele says:

What a beautiful quilt……how nice that the kit fabrics are labeled πŸ™‚ I'm so glad your machine is back to normal, with no difficult fix πŸ™‚

  • Kim says:

Love that Farmhouse Quilt pattern and kit. Glad your machine issue turned out to be a minor handler error and now you can get to it again. Running kids to activities provides a break from the machine, so it's all good. Really really love the Farmhouse quilt…sigh.
