It is really beginning to feel a lot like winter in my neck of the woods!! A few days of this cold weather and I am ready for spring already!!! Since the Christmas decorations are down, I am looking forward to decorating for the summer months….skipping spring all together! I think it is just wishful thinking for sunny skies and warm temps to get here faster. π
I know many of you do too, but I like to make projects during the current season. For example, I like to make Christmas projects around Christmas time. Well since I am in the mood for summer, a time when I like to decorate in a patriotic theme, what better time then to share Home Grown. Home Grown is a beautiful design by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings. It is a gorgeous wool applique wall hanging on a flannel background setting. I had the pleasure of quilting Lisa’s sample last year. Yup, still playing catch up on posting quilts from last year. π
I have a sweet little helper holding the quilt for the photo shoot. If I
remember correctly, the weather was not cooperating for nice photos, so I called on my helper to hold the quilt. I love wool on flannel!!! These flannels look just like wool. So pretty!
I worked down the quilt stitching on and around all the wool applique first. Stitching around all the flowers really made the hydrangeas come to life!!
Added: Karen asked in the comments section if I micro stippled in the squares. I actually quilted tight, straight lines back and forth for the filler. I DID, however micro stipple at the top of the piece around the “welcome” and top of lattice.
Oh my word, your flowers have come to life! They are popping out and look beautful. Your quilting has brought this quilt to another dimension.
beautiful love the quilting! really makes the flowers pop!
ok I would have had to fix it too, there are some things I can live with and some things well your right every-time I looked at it thats all I would see.

I really love how you quilted the lattice. That's pretty.
So I'm guessing Lisa is selling these flannels in her shop? The hubby and I will make another trip over on the S.S. Badger this summer and maybe I'll pick some up.
Your quilting is stunning. Love the lattice in the background. Perfect!
Very, very sweet, Linda!
Beautiful work ladies! Kathy — did you actually micro stitch inside the lattice squares ? I can't tell from your picture. The quilting is perfect for the piece.
Karen
That is a beautiful quilt and i love how you quilted it, really nice idea for a summer piece.
Debbie
Your custom quilting really makes the quilt sing – genius to do the lattice design. All in all, a beautiful project!
I love how you cross hatched the double lines, but I don't see where you crossed over any quilting. Do you know what I'm saying? Did you quilt individual squares I guess is what I should say.
I'd like to try this with my Bernina; I love how this piece turned out. Thanks for your help.
Very well done. You are so meticulous!
Another fantastic job. Thank you for sharing part of your process. Hugs
We haven't been above freezing since Dec. 9th. Thank goodness for warm clothes, a good heater and lots of quilts to snuggle under!
Gorgeous quilting, as always!
I have a hydrangea just like that outside my sewing room window, Linda! Right now it is a frozen, shriveled mess! I think I'd love to have that quilt hanging in the window to remind me the real plant will come back to life soon! Gorgeous work!
Cheers!
I too love the lattice…nothing else would do! π
I'm so ready for spring too! my bones need a thaw!
This is one of my favorites. It's pure genius, all that lattice. And that feather across the top, love, love, love.
That is just precious!!
Your quilting is sheer genius and magical.
That is so amazing Linda, I have never seen this type of quilting done on those materials! So innovative. I love the way it's come out. I fully agree with Stephanie (above).
The flowers have such a realistic appearance. Nice.
