I want to thank everyone for all the lovely birthday wishes!!  I received the nicest comments and emails.  You guys ROCK!!

We were having a bit of an Indian Summer and I was loving every second of it, but it’s starting to cool off again.  I finally have most of my fall decor out.  I swear the boxes were sitting out for nearly a month before I got to them.  I love to decorate with pumpkins.  While on vacation in Tennessee I picked up a new pumpkin.  A new favorite for sure!!

A Michigan State Spartan pumpkin!!!  I can’t believe we found it in Tennessee.   What a beauty!!  I LOVE it!

Speaking of vacation, while chilling in our cabin in the Smokey Mountains, I worked on some wool projects.  It was nice because I just haven’t had the time to do any hand stitching.  Now that the girls are dancing on Friday nights this year, which is so hard for me to get used to, I can make Friday evenings my time to work on wool while I wait for them.  I’m looking forward to it!! πŸ™‚  So I didn’t really have a project ready to go when we left for our vacation, so I just packed some leftover wool from my stash and supplies.  I thought maybe I can just whip something up like a candle mat or something.  This is what I came up with.

FOUR!!!  Four of the cutest little candle mats.  Yep, I designed them and everything!!  They are simple designs, but not too bad for something I did on a whim.

Perfect size for a candle.  I think I used a coffee cup outline to get the shape of the mats.

The pumpkins are on a mottled dark brown wool.

I think the ghosts are my favorite.

I made little colonial knots for their eyes.  I forgot to take pics of the backs.  I finished them with a nice brushed cotton backing.

I actually have a wool project I would like to start working on, but I haven’t done the prep work yet.  No time.  That’s the problem.  If I can just get my wool prepped, so I can have it ready to stitch, I’d be all set!!  I could work on this if I wanted to torture myself.  “This” is my Hawaiian applique quilt. Actually, I worked on it on the ride down to Tennessee.  It took all my willpower not to throw it out the window every time I got frustrated.  I did make some progress.  Since I’m determined to finish it myself, I figure at the rate I’m going…it’ll take me 20 years, but I’m fine with that.  πŸ™‚

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Very cute candle mats, especially like the pumpkin one. Haven't worked with wool yet, but this type of pattern seems like something I could get done. Happy belated birthday. Today is my husband's birthday so he is celebrating with a book-buying spree.

Sweet pumpkin, Linda. Funny that you found it in Tennessee. I am sure made by someone who was a transplant πŸ™‚

Fun small projects and perfect as mats that you can make up quickly and have something nice to display on, for the season.

I loved your comment that you almost threw the quilt out the window! I would have loved to have been in the car behind you and scooped it up.

I love your candle mats. Really cute! Those cabins in the mountains are really nice to just relax, enjoy the view and do a little stitching.

  • Karen says:

For working on a "whim" your candle mats came out wonderful. My favorite is the one with the flowers on it. I was surprised to hear you were trying to work on your Hawaiian applique in the car! It is going to be beautiful when you finish it!

Love your little candle mats! Way to go. I saw an Iowa Hawkeye pumpkin like that when I was back in Iowa, but I passed on it. I don't have a single fall decoration out yet. Been too busy. We haven't even gone pumpkin shopping. Sigh. And, now I find I missed your birthday. I'm so sorry. I hope you had a good one. πŸ™‚
